why did the Oakland Tribune have so much on superstitions that one day in 1935?

They had a contest  where, from a full page of superstitions run on Sundays, you’d have to pick out the ones that applied to the different cartoons printed each day of the week. You’d keep the Sunday page and reference it every day. They actually ran the full-page superstitions six Sundays in a row (although a lot of them were repeats). Here’s an example from May 5, 1935:


That whole page is just superstitions!!!
